Hiked from Lion’s Head to Bear Mt. 6-29-13

On Saturday June 29, 2013,  I took a Hike with Hike N Praise my Church Hiking group.  We started our hike at 9:40 AM from Lions Head access trail and finished at the Bear Mt Access trail, Under Mt Trail.  The entire hike was about 8.5 miles and took  a little over 7 hrs. with several long rests along the way.  We met another Church Hiking group from Cheshire which was a youth group doing an overnighter, there’s a little of that group in the video. This was a tough hike and challenged all 4 of us, Dean, Jeremy, Mark and myself.  After our hike we stopped at Jake’s Wayback Burgers for a burger which tasted soooooo good after that hike which burning about 4000 calories so I figured I could afford some junk food which I usually do not eat. We probably met about 50 people on the trail it was very busy out there almost crowded… This was a very good hike and I would recommend it only to experienced and fit hikers.  The GPS stats with a link to a map are below and a link to the video of this hike..

Note the GPS stats are missing about 1 mile because while resting at Lion’s Head I stopped the GPS and forgot to re start it when we started hiking again..

Hiking to Millers Pond from Harvey Rd Durham

Frank and I hike 2.2 miles on the Mattabasset trail to Miller Pond.  While we were there Frank tried his luck for some Bass but they were not biting.  On the way back we found a short cut so it was only 1.2 miles to get back to the truck..  All in all it was a great hike and the lake was beautiful…  Duke and Maggie enjoyed the hike too.  The GPS stats are below with a few pictures…

Hiked up to Bear Rock, Durham CT

Wednesday June 5, I hiked up to Bear Rock in Durham on the Mattabassett trail from Harvey Rd..  This was a pretty easy hike except for the last 50 feet which was very steep up to the top and difficult especially with 2 dogs but we made it.  There is a by pass trail which I would recommend if you are not to good with climbing up a ledge using both your hands and feet.  The by-pass trail makes this hike easy.  Below is a link to a video of this hike and the GPS stats..
